16 December 1949 – 25 May 2017
In 2000, Enoch zu Guttenberg and his dramaturge Klaus Jörg Schönmetzler tested the suitability of the Herrenchiemsee
the suitability of the Herrenchiemsee Royal Palace’s Mirror Gallery as a concert hall with a seven-day ‘Bach Festival’. In 2001, the International Herrenchiemsee Festival was born, which has developed into an institution in international music life: a concept festival with an unmistakable profile and the highest artistic standards. The programme has always been guided by the special magic of the place with its monastic tradition spanning one and a half millennia, the world-famous royal palace and the birthplace of the German constitution.
