LGT Young Soloists

Founded in 2013 by acclaimed violinist and pedagogue Alexander Gilman, the LGT Young Soloists is an internationally renowned string ensemble composed of exceptionally talented musicians aged 15 to 25 from over 20 countries. The ensemble has quickly risen to prominence, establishing itself as one of the world’s foremost touring youth orchestras, thanks to its unique approach: these young virtuosos not only perform as soloists but also accompany each other, sharing a deep passion for music and collective artistry.

Celebrated for their remarkable quality, the LGT Young Soloists are often compared to top-tier professional ensembles. Their dynamic performances have been met with critical acclaim from leading publications, with one review noting, “Those who do not know that these are very young teenagers playing would think they are in the midst of a top ensemble” (BR-Klassik).

The LGT Young Soloists made an extraordinary post-Covid comeback, premiering Philip Glass’s newly composed string symphony in London and Vienna. In 2022, they headlined the Heidelberg Spring Festival and the Merano Festival and performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including the Berlin Konzerthaus, the Vienna Musikverein, the Mozarteum Salzburg, and the Victoria Hall in Singapore.

Their milestone 10th anniversary was marked in 2023 with a sold-out concert at the Great Hall of the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, followed by their highly anticipated US debut at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The ensemble’s 2024-2025 season includes performances at the Tonhalle Zurich, Konzerthaus Blaibach and Mozartfest Würzburg (GER), as well as international tours spanning Australia, Asia, and North America.

Over the years, the LGT Young Soloists have collaborated with esteemed guest soloists, including Alma Deutscher, Juliane Banse, Amihai Gross, Stephan Moccio, Esther Yoo, and Martin James Bartlett. Their discography, which began just two years after their founding, includes seven critically acclaimed albums. The ensemble became the first youth orchestra in the world to release an album on Sony Music/RCA Red Seal. Their recordings span a diverse repertoire, from the world premiere of Philip Glass’s 14th Symphony to the celebrated album “Beethoven RECOMPOSED”, released on Naxos, which topped the Apple Music Video Classical Charts in more than 40 countries.

Other notable recordings include “Souvenir” (2019), a collection of virtuoso pieces by Piazzolla, Kreisler, and Massenet, “Nordic Dream” (2018), which features works by Scandinavian composers and was nominated for the Opus Klassik, and “Russian Soul” (2017). The ensemble’s wide-ranging repertoire and technical excellence continue to set new standards for youth orchestras worldwide.

In July 2024, the LGT Young Soloists released their latest album with Naxos UK, featuring Mahler’s arrangement of Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden” and “Concerto Grosso No. 3 – Liechtenstein”, a commissioned work by composer Airat Ichmouratov. This latest release exemplifies the ensemble’s commitment to pushing artistic boundaries while nurturing the next generation of musical talent.
