Under the direction of conductor Dirk Joeres, the Westdeutsche Sinfonia Leverkusen (WSL) – the hand-picked best-of ensemble of the major North Rhine-Westphalian orchestras founded in 1987 – has made a name for itself that is also respected internationally. When the WSL made its debut at the Musikvereinssaal in Vienna in 1991, the press praised the ‘crystal-clear classical splendour’ of the sound. In addition to its own concert series in Leverkusen (‘KlassikSonntag!’), it also gives guest performances in Bonn, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Essen and Cologne, among others
