Gottfried von der Goltz – artistic director

Gottfried von der Goltz has earned an internationally acclaimed reputation as a baroque violinist and as artistic director of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra. As was customary in the 18th century, he conducts the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra from the concertmaster’s podium.

His repertoire ranges from the early Baroque to the present day, illustrated by a broad discography that demonstrates him as an incredibly versatile and flexible musician. Gottfried von der Goltz has earned a reputation as a specialist in professional circles, particularly with CD recordings of the long-forgotten music of the Dresden Baroque and the four Bach sons.

In addition to his numerous appearances with the FBO, Gottfried von der Goltz regularly collaborates (as guest conductor and soloist) with the Berliner Barocksolisten, the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony, the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, and other ensembles. For several years, he served as artistic director of the Norsk Barokkorkester.

Gottfried von der Goltz also has a great passion for chamber music, which he pursues in various ensembles. As a professor at the Freiburg University of Music, he is a sought-after teacher of baroque and modern violin.
