Mihail Mihaylov

was born in 1987 in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria. After studying the violin, he began singing lessons at the age of sixteen. In 2011 Mihail Mihaylov graduated from the National Music Academy of Sofia ‘Prof. Pantcho Vladigerov’, where he studied with Prof. Ivanka Ninova. He has attended masterclasses with Christina Angelakova (2007) and Anna Tomowa-Sintow (2011).

Mihail Mihaylov made his opera début at the age of twenty-two when he played the part of Count Almaviva in Rossini's The Barber of Seville. During his studies in the National Music Academy of Sofia he also took part in La Cambiale di Matrimonio, as Edward Milford, and in Don Pasquale, as Ernesto.

Following his graduation from the Academy Mihaylov played Nemorino in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore, Alfredo in Verdi's La traviata, Count Camille de Rosillon in Lehár's The Merry Widow, in most Bulgarian opera houses.

Since 2012 Mihaylov is a regular guest soloist at Sofia Philharmonic. Besides the concerts, he played the title role in Handel's Acis and Galatea and under the conduction of Ljubka Biagioni he performed in Verdi’s “La Traviata” as Alfredo, “Falstaff” as Fenton, and the tenor solos in Mozart’s “Missa da requiem” and Beethoven’s 9th Simphony.

The young tenor has performed in L’elisir d’amore and La bohème on tours in Switzerland, Germany and Italy. In 2013 he made his UK début, performing in Verdi’s Requiem in London conducted by Enrico Marconi at Royal Festival Hall with Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Mihail Mihaylov’s oratorio repertoire also includes Haydn’s Nelson Mass and Rossini’s Stabat Mater.
