Yorck Felix Speer – bass

The bassist, Yorck Felix Speer, obtained his education in singing under Theoder Greß, Hanna Schwarz, and Alan Speer. He was a masterclass student of Brigitte Fassbaender and Andreas Schmidt and is an awardee of the Queen- Sonja- Music- Competition. Speer studied German and theology and, since 1996, works as a freelance concert singer with increasingly frequent engagements in opera as well.

Throughout his career, he has worked with such different conductors as Ivor Bolton, Jan Willem de Vriend, Marc Minkowski, Thomas Hengelbrock, Hans- Christoph Rademann, Sir Roger Norrington, Kristjan Järvi, Enoch zu Guttenberg, Carlos Kalmar, Christoph Pregardien, Trevor Pinnock, Phillippe Herreweghe, Howard Griffith, Bernhard Klee, Ebbe Munk, Fredrik Malmberg, Marek Janowski, Manfred Honeck, Charles Dutoit, Christopher Hogwood, Claus Peter Flor, Vladimir Minin, Marcus Creed,  Markus Stenz, Vincent de Kort, Christoph Spering, Peter Dijkstra, Alejo Perez, Stefan Parkman, Philipp Ahmann, Helmuth Rilling, Peter Neumann, Ingo Metzmacher, and Semyon Bychkov.

He sang at the Musikverein in Vienna, the Gewandhaus and the Thomas Church in Leipzig, the Philharmonic Hall, the Theatre de Champs Elysees, and the Cite de la Musique in Paris, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Mariinskji- Theater and – Concert Hall in St. Petersburg, the Philharmonie and the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Herkules- Saal and the Philharmonie am Gasteig in Munich, the Frauenkirche, Kreuzkirche, and Semperoper of Dresden, the Aula Paolo VI in Rome, the Teatro Monumental in Madrid, the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the KKL Lucerne, the Philharmonic Hall in Warsaw, Berwaldhallen and Konzerthuset in Stockholm, the Festspielhaus Baden- Baden, the Musikhalle in Hamburg, the Palau de la Musica Catalana in Barcelona, as well as at the Sala São Paulo in Brazil.

Speer gave concerts at the Schleswig- Holstein Musikfestival, the Festival de Beaune, the Rheingau Music Festival, at the Weilburger Schloßkonzerte, the Dresdener Musikfestspiele, the Ansbacher Bachtage, at the Schwetzingen Festival, the Festival of Herrenchiemsee, the Budapest Spring Festival, the Ludwigsburger Schloßfestspiele, the Mozart Festival La Coru?a, the Mosel Music Festival, the Oregon Bach Festival, the Russian Easter Festival, the Bonn Beethoven Festival, and the Leipzig Bach Festival.

In 2011, he made his debut as Sarastro at Staatstheater Oldenburg, which was followed by engagements at Opera Cologne in Schreker’s “Die Gezeichneten”, as well as his role debut as King Marke in Tristan und Isolde at the Nationale Reisopera Enschede. Furthermore, in season 2016/17 Speer sang in a concert version of ‘Der Freischütz’ under the baton of Thomas Hengelbrock on NDR and also made his debut at Staatstheater Kassel as Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro.

In this season he is once again a guest at Opera Cologne as Reinmar von Zweter in Tannhäuser, and for the first time at Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari as Daland/The Flying Dutchman, whom he will also sing at the Nationale Reisopera Enschede. Staatstheater Kassel engaged him for the following seasons as Hunding and Hagen in the new RING production as well as for the role of Baculus in Wildschütz.

Radio- and CD-productions document Speer’s career. Recent recordings include the role of Räuberhauptmann Roberto in Ferdinand Ries´ opera Die Räuberbraut as well as Wagner’s Das Liebesverbot under Kristjan Järvi with German radio stations WDR and MDR.
